Project relevance.

Timeliness of the supposed education and training program is conditioned by necessity of formation of interdisciplinary approach in global analysis of sustainable development.

It requires:

- new approach in training the bachelor and master-level students who will utilize experience of the leading US specialists in SD education and training, invited under the Fulbright Program,

- elaborating unified methodical basics for analysis of SD, which combines the developed countries’ experience and experience of the countries passed the way of transition economy,

- engaging specific US prominent specialists in SD with corresponding background and experience in the specified high-priority SD areas.

The Program elaborated will serve as the methodical basis for training faculties and future students.

The program is aimed to overcome one the most difficult barriers to building the capacity for sustainable development - the miss-allocation of priorities in the education process: too much attention traditionally devoted to the transfer of knowledge and too little time given to the development of appropriate interactive skills and attitudes. For instance, managers learned about the natural environment through the natural sciences but were not taught how to deal with actual problems in their activities, so they were unprepared to apply what they learned.

The proposed 5-year project will organically correspond to the high education reforming processes, i.e. establishing new formal rules institutionalizing universities’ position and internal conditions within market economy and democratic society, developing and implementing new laws regulating higher education system, adapting to the higher Western educational standards to meet the increasing demands in sustainable development of a society.
