Project goals and tasks.

The following specified high-priority areas of SD educational program will be supplemented / enhanced by involving American specialists’ expertise and western teaching methodology:

  • Environmental Economics and Policy,
  • Corporate Social Responsibility,
  • Risk Management,
  • Green Technologies,
  • Systems Analysis for Sustainable Development,
  • Social Science Data Analysis,
  • Decision Support Systems (including Artificial Intelligence),
  • Material Science for Sustainable Development

 

As the result of the 5-year educational and strategic NTUU KPI – Fulbright Scholar Program the following aims of enhancement of the SD educational program are expected to be achieved:

  • The social and institutional components of SD program will be strengthened;
  • Not only statistical data, but also sociological data will be used for analysis;
  • Economical and social & political components will be strengthened in the general SD course;
  • Focusing more on interdisciplinary research will be achieved;
  • Movement from teaching-centered to student-centered learning will be initiated and achieved;
  • Time allocation adjustment for content knowledge, applied skills, and communication, entrepreneurship and leadership skills will be fulfilled;
  • The skills component will obtain appropriate time allocation between hard skills (quantitative methods) and soft skills (communication, entrepreneurship, leadership, problem solving, team work);
  • Building students attitude (openness and willingness for knowledge and experience sharing, individual and team responsibility) will be reached along with the shift to learning-centered model of education that includes practical case studies, concrete and contractual team projects, simulations, and guest speakers from business and government sectors;
  • A competitive annual base for encouraging and awarding students’ initiated SD projects will be established;
  • The right proportions among the educational elements will be secured by clearly defined educational goals of the “Basics” and “Joint MS-Candidate of Sciences” programs which will lead to delivery of the ideal graduate and implemented in each of the course syllabus of the SD program;
  • The 5-year strategic NTUU “KPI”-FP plan with American scholars coming every year will focus not only on introduction of new courses and content, but also on teaching methodology. A series of certified faculty development workshops for all instructors involved in SD program (including Candidate of Sciences students – prospectus instructors) will be established and delivered regularly during they visits;
  • During the visit of each of the US faculty a teaching team will be formed to:
      • Adjust the course to Ukrainian contexts
      • Learn firsthand from US scholar the content and teaching methods
      • Develop additional UA specific teaching materials and cases
      • Prepare a succession team to continue the course delivery in the future.
      • New cases and attractive textbooks will be developed with accompanied teaching manual, cases, simulations, competitions (with further expanding to distance learning)
